INFORMATION

Hard Waxoil is easy to apply to all common woods (please consult us for rare exotic woods). It is also easy to maintain with Blanchon Maintenance Oil.

  • It is available in 12 shades: natural/natural, chêne clair/light oak, chêne doré/rusty oak, chêne fume/smoked oak, chêne vieux de France/new French oak, merisier/cherry, noyer/walnut, bois brut/hard bare wood, bois flotté, blanc/white, noir/black, gris clair/light grey, gris blanc/white grey.

Preparation

  • Sand old or new floors to bare wood with No. 24 or 36 sandpaper, then with No. 50 or 60 sandpaper and finish by sanding with a used No. 80, 100 or 120 sandpaper.
  • If any filling is required (holes, cracks, etc.), before final sanding, use Blanchon Pro Filler® or Blanchon Multi-Purpose Putty. (Please consult the relevant Technical Data Sheets).
  • Then wipe the floor carefully removing all traces of dust.
  • The surface must be completely clean and dry: in general, there should be less than 10% moisture content (refer to Industrial Standards).
  • Do not use detergents or bleaches.
  • Oil or grease exuded from exotic woods should be removed with acetone.

Therapeutic Treatment against wood-eating insects: Use only therapeutic products recommended by Blanchon.

Application

  • No mixing required: Hard Wax Oil is ready to use.
  • Shake well before use.
  • No dilution required.
  • Do not apply to wooden floors if the temperature is below 12°C or if the relative humidity is higher than 85%.
  • Never use on wood where the moisture content is higher than 10%.
  • Use only in a well-ventilated area. Keep all aquariums and plants away from the area where the product is applied.
  • Hardwax Oil should always be applied in the direction of the wood grain with a synthetic brush, smooth/smooth spatula (non-serrated) or a fine-bristle roller (mohair). During application it should be wiped frequently with a cotton cloth (in a circular motion), or with a sander equipped with soft beige or white felt, or a polishing machine equipped with soft brushes. To make polishing easier, work successively only on a small area.
  • The amount of material applied per coat should be thin, giving a coverage of around 20 to 25 m2/L per coat.
  • Polishing (with a cotton cloth, sander) during application ensures an attractive, very natural finish. The product has penetrated deeply into the wood without excess material residue on the surface.
  • Wait 8 to 12 hours before applying the second coat in the same way as the first..

Special cases

  • On exotic or oily wood, apply a coat of Prim’Oil(1) primer to avoid any delay in drying, which is common with these types of wood. Then apply two coats of Hard Waxoil, and polish each coat immediately with a polishing machine equipped with beige felt.
  • On parquet/deck (interior) of a ship, first apply a coat of Prim’Oil(1) to seal the joints and then proceed as above.
  • To maximize protection, over the two coats of Hard Waxoil it is possible to apply a final coat of the same product in a natural (colorless) shade. (1) Prim’Oil, a primer based on synthetic resins, does not block the pores of the wood, but isolates the tannins, which does not affect the Hard Waxoil coating. (Please consult the relevant Technical Data Sheet).

Maintenance

  • Remove dust from waxed/oiled wooden surfaces frequently using a simple microfibre mop or vacuum cleaner.
  • Stains and marks can be easily removed with a neutral detergent (using damp mops or cloths, but never too wet). Important: wait 15 days before using any maintenance product to give Hard Waxoil time to develop its full mechanical capacity.
  • Properly maintained waxed/oiled wooden floors look better and better over time.
  • Wipe with a damp mop (with microfibre) using diluted Blanchon Natural Soap for Oiled Floors (dilution 250 ml in 10 litres of water).
  • Work in a relatively small area with an area to rinse and wring out the mop or microfiber cloth well. It should always be well wrung out and avoid wetting the wooden floor.
  • Frequency: from once a week on floors with light use to daily cleaning on floors with heavy traffic. Blanchon Natural Soap for Oiled Wood Floors, which is 100% natural, is ideal for cleaning all waxed/oiled wooden floors in depth, strengthening and protecting.
  • After ensuring that the waxed/oiled floor is clean and dust-free, apply or spread (using a hand sprayer) the Maintenance Oil maintenance product and wipe with a clean, dry cotton cloth to obtain a matte finish.
  • This process is faster and easier with a sanding machine equipped with a beige felt (if the floor is very dirty, a red felt can be used for better mechanical cleaning) or a polishing machine with 3 rotating brushes. This is similar to the spray method: polishing is faster and mechanical cleaning is more effective.
  • Normal use of the space: 4-8 hours after polishing.
  • Frequency: when the waxed/oiled wooden floor loses its beautiful appearance, or more generally, once or twice a month.
  • For high-traffic wooden floors, regular maintenance using the spray method can be enhanced by applying a coat of Hard Waxoil followed by careful sanding, either with a polishing machine or by hand.
  • The more often the Maintenance Oil is applied, the easier the maintenance becomes.
