Armourcoat AntiCrack is a fibre and resin reinforced plasterboard that resists cracking of plasterboard joints and significantly improves the impact resistance and durability of the plasterboard construction. Armourcoat AntiCrack is designed for use over plasterboard. The application of Armourcoat AntiCrack will significantly improve crack resistance but will not prevent cracking in a finished substrate due to structural movement. Use in dry interior areas only.

BENEFITS
  • Significantly improves the impact resistance and durability of plasterboard construction to provide a strong base for Armourcoat surface finishes
  • Resists cracking at plasterboard joints due to the product’s high tensile strength
  • Much greater impact resistance than conventional plasterboard jointing materials
  • Enables substrates to meet the high specifications required for Armourcoat Polished Plaster eliminates blistering around corner caps.
  • No joint tape required except in the US market where the code states A1 level plasterboard finish as supplied or when applied.
INFORMATION

Armourcoat AntiCrack is a fibre and resin reinforced plasterboard that resists cracking of plasterboard joints and significantly improves the impact resistance and durability of the plasterboard construction. Armourcoat AntiCrack is designed for use over plasterboard. It is suitable for application directly to jointed plasterboard and to fresh gypsum base coats such as Armourcoat Squash Court Basecoat or other weaker base coats.

Note: Armourcoat AntiCrack is not suitable for external use. It is also not suitable for use directly over MDF or plywood. These should first be covered with a layer of plasterboard.

Preparation

Mixing Instructions

  • Always wear a dust mask when mixing Armourcoat AntiCrack.
  • Pour 9 – 10 litres of clean water into a mixing bucket.
  • Pour the contents of a 25kg bag of Armourcoat Anticrack and mix with a mechanical mixer for 2’ – 3’ minutes or until a consistent lump-free mixture is achieved.
  • Allow to stand for a further 2’ – 3’ minutes and mix again for 20’’ – 30’’ seconds before use. When properly mixed the material should spread easily without sagging.
  • Where greater build thickness is required, the water content can be reduced to approximately 8 litres per bag.

Application

When applying Armourcoat Anticrack to plasterboard with tapered edge boards, it is important to fill and reinforce the joints with fibre tape before troweling the entire wall surface.

Armourcoat AntiCrack is best applied with a 14″ trowel sold at Armourcoat.

  • Apply a 50mm strip of mesh fibre tape over the plasterboard joints. Ensure that the tape is well adhered to both surfaces of the board.
  • Mix the material according to the mixing instructions and apply to the surface.
  • Leave the material to set (30′ – 40′ minutes) then apply a firm 3mm layer to the entire wall surface.
  • Once the material has been applied, work the trowel vertically and horizontally to ensure it is level and then allow it to set slightly. Once the material has set slightly, lightly go over the surface with the trowel again to seal.
  • If a smoother finish is required for the application of Spatulata P80, take a plaster trowel with an orange facing sponge and clean the surface of the Armourcoat AntiCrack in a circular motion and then press with the spatula to obtain a smoother surface.

Note: For all finishes except Spatulata it is not necessary to achieve a perfectly smooth finish. The overall flatness is the important factor, as any slight surface texture in the AntiCrack will be covered by the Keycoat.
