Klondike Corten Top is a coating for exterior and interior spaces characterized by the Corten effect, which accurately reproduces the well-known original rust effect with the distinct oxidations of steel. Its chemical composition is characterized by the lotus effect. This feature has a double cleaning effect: raindrops slide off the painted surface, removing most of the dust and preventing the precipitation of mixed pollutants on the surface.

  • Self-cleaning
  • High resistance to thermal shock and storm cycles
  • Very water-repellent
INFORMATION

Klondike Corten Top is even more breathable and washable than Klondike Corten Mid. Its chemical composition is characterized by the lotus effect. This characteristic has a double cleaning effect: raindrops slide off the painted surface, removing most of the dust and preventing the settling of mixed pollutants on the surface. Once the product has completely hardened, a breathable film is formed that has excellent abrasion resistance. Once dry, Klondike Corten Top can withstand both high and low temperatures, thermal shock and storm cycles.

It also has the property of effectively combining the characteristics of water repellency and breathability according to the “dry wall” theory or Kunzle theory, an important prerequisite for the success and durability of an outdoor product, which is the characteristic of protecting the exterior wall from water but at the same time allowing any moisture trapped inside the masonry to escape.

Preparation

  • Smooth surface: remove all old, loose and flaking paint and clean. If necessary, scrape the surface. Then, apply a stabilizing primer depending on the type of surface, especially if the substrate is lime-based. On metal substrates, the metal must be thoroughly cleaned and then the surface must be primed with a suitable metal primer. When the primer is completely dry, apply a coat of PRIMER 1200 and after 6 hours at 20°C, proceed with the application of Klondike Corten Top.
  • Raw or unprepared surface: clean (and if necessary, fill/fill) the surface you want to paint. Once dry, sand and apply a coat of a suitable primer. Then apply a layer of KLONDIKE RASANTE R7 using a stainless steel spatula to make the surface as smooth as possible. KLONDIKE RASANTE R7 also acts as a primer, so after 12 hours at 20°C, proceed with the application of Klondike Corten Top.

Application

  • “Spatula” effect: Apply a layer of Klondike Corten Top, with the PV 43 stainless steel spatula, working with small continuous strokes in all directions, leaving a product thickness of approximately 1 mm. Coverage: 1 liter for approximately 2 – 3 m2 for one layer on a smooth substrate.
  • “Natural Cast” effect: Apply a layer of Klondike Corten Top with the narrow side of the PV09 brush or the Art. 128 brush, in a direction from top to bottom and vice versa, intentionally leaving irregular lines as long as possible, from 1 mm to 2 cm wide, with a thickness of 1 – 2 mm, on the entire substrate to be decorated. After 15 – 20 minutes (at a temperature of 20°C), apply the 2nd layer, but this time using the PV 43 stainless steel spatula and spreading the material vertically, from top to bottom and vice versa, leaving a layer of product of approximately 1 mm. Finally, smooth (with light pressure) the substrate with a vertical movement, taking care not to remove the Klondike Corten Top. It is important to apply with the “wet on wet” process, so that it does not dry out, especially at the joints. Yield: 1 liter for approximately 1.5 – 2.0 m2 for two layers on a smooth substrate.
