Tannins are organic substances found in most woods. Their colors, often pale, can develop to dark brown. Some woods, such as: oak, chestnut, Douglas fir, red cedar, niangon, meranti, limba (or frack, widely used in plywood), etc. have a high content of highly reactive tannins. XYLOPRIM® BOIS TANNIQUES BLANCHON primer isolates tannins from the final finish to be applied as follows: impregnation varnish (in most cases), but also crust varnish, wood color, etc. The original shade of the wood is thus preserved.

BENEFITS
  • Recommended for tannic woods before finishing
  • Coats and insulates wood fibers
  • Avoids tannin build-up
  • Covers with all finishes
  • Colorless: maintains the original wood color
INFORMATION

The XYLOPRIM® primer-base blocks the absorption of tannins, creating a “barrier” so that unwanted stains do not appear, without changing the absorption behavior of the Wood. It remains microporous and the wood retains its original color.

The XYLOPRIM® primer-base insulates and isolates the finish that will be applied later: in most cases impregnation varnish, but also varnish, paint, etc. The original shade of the wood will be preserved. Tannins are organic substances present in most woods. Their colors are often yellow and can change to dark brown. Some woods, such as Oak, Chestnut, Douglas Fir, Red Cedar, Niangon, Meranti, Limba (or fraké, widely used in plywood) etc. have a high content of highly active tannins. The consequences for colorless and/or transparent finishes can be visually unpleasant: the tannins “vomit” and are the cause of stains, streaks, creating more or less intense marks.

Colorless and non-greasy, XYLOPRIM® provides comfort and safety to the user during application. After drying, it can be coated with all finishes: impregnation varnishes, varnishes or paints.

Note: XYLOPRIM® is not a hard finish and is not intended for use on wooden floors subject to heavy traffic.

Preparation

  • The wood must be sound, clean and dry, without traces of resin or old varnishes, impregnation varnishes, paints, oils or other finishes: sand and if necessary use the corrosive DÉCAPANT GELIFIE 10’.
  • XYLOPRIM® develops its anti-tannin characteristics on bare wood. Application on old wood is possible, always with some reservation regarding the substrate.
  • On new wood, if necessary, sand and dust. Then apply a suitable wood treatment-preservative. Contaminated wood should be sanded, cleaned and a suitable wood treatment-preservative should be applied.
  • Exotic woods (Meranti, Limba, etc.) should first be degreased if necessary, with acetone.
  • On Softwoods, remove and degrease any resin pockets using acetone. Sand the wood with 80 grit sandpaper to optimize the opening of the pores.
  • In all cases, thoroughly clean the dust before application.

Application

  • Ready to use: Do not thin. Shake well before use.
  • Apply one (1) “rich” coat in the direction of the wood grain, with a brush or wide brush, paying special attention to grooves, joints and edges. For application with a paint gun, dilute with water 5-10% and apply 2 coats.
  • XYLOPRIM® should not be mixed with any other product.
  • Carefully sand the entire surface with No. 80 sandpaper and remove dust. The use of a wire scouring pad is prohibited.
  • On very tannic woods (which often have patches around metal parts), apply a second coat.
