INFORMATION

Intelligent Gloss water-based enamel is now enhanced with cutting-edge Intelligent Grip™ technology. This new development brings primer technology to the topcoat, without compromising on finish and without the need for a separate primer. Transform your kitchen or bathroom cabinets, radiators, and hard-to-reach walls or doors with just one can of paint, minimizing the need for expensive preparation, extra costs, packaging, and paint residue. Intelligent Gloss enamel is especially recommended for finishing wood surfaces and is suitable for both interior and exterior use.

Preparation

  • General: Remove any surface imperfections and repair any defects to ensure a top-notch finish.
  • New wood: Unpreserved softwood timber should be treated with a suitable wood preservative.
    • In softwoods, knots should be sealed with a suitable product to prevent moisture from seeping into the finished surface. Resinous hardwoods require cleaning.
    • Ensure the moisture content of the timber is below 15% before commencing application. Damp wood should never be painted as this can cause blistering, peeling, cracking and premature coating failure.
    • Green oak should not be painted unless it has been exposed to the outside and dried for at least 6 months.
  • Metals: New ferrous/non-ferrous metals should be cleaned by hand or mechanically to remove any surface rust prior to application. Bare or corroded iron or steel will require 2 coats of Little Greene Intelligent ASP Primer.
  • Plastics: For long-term performance and durability, clean and abrade all surfaces thoroughly. For best results, apply one coat of Little Greene Intelligent ASP Multi-Surface Primer.
  • Existing Paint Finish: Remove all loose and flaking paint. Degrease with a suitable detergent solution, then rinse with clean water. Sand thoroughly with medium grit sandpaper, e.g. 120-150 grit to create a smooth, defect-free surface, focusing more on areas where paint has been removed. Make repairs, sand and prime with a first coat of Little Greene Intelligent Gloss diluted 5 to 25% (by volume) with water to all exposed and repaired surfaces. Follow with 2 coats of Little Greene Intelligent Gloss.
  • Old matt paints exposed to high humidity conditions may have degraded over time and should be primed with a coat of Little Greene Intelligent ASP diluted 5 to 25% (by volume) with water to ensure the surface is insulated and properly sealed.
  • New walls: For newly rendered surfaces, allow at least four weeks for the render to dry thoroughly. Apply a coat of Intelligent Gloss water based primer diluted 5 to 25% (by volume) with water, depending on the porosity of the substrate. Finish by applying two full coats of Intelligent Gloss. This product is not suitable for painting over lime-based or other natural render substrates.
  • Existing masonry: Lightly wash any existing paint to remove any dust or surface stains. Apply one coat of Intelligent Gloss water-based primer thinned with 5 to 25% (by volume) water, depending on the porosity of the substrate. Finish by applying at least two full coats of Intelligent Gloss as required. This product is not suitable for painting over lime-based or other natural render substrates.

Application

  • Stir well before use.
  • Do not apply to surfaces when the ambient temperature is below 8°C.
  • In addition, for exterior application, do not apply if there is a risk of rain or frost during application or the drying period.
  • Brushing: Always use high quality synthetic bristle brushes that are the right size for the job. Apply Intelligent Gloss Water Based Paint in even strokes and only extend the paint area so that a wet edge is easily maintained. For a higher quality final finish, apply final strokes in the same direction and do not re-apply over areas where the paint has already started to dry.
  • For complex objects or where high ambient temperatures/ or high air flow conditions cannot be avoided, the workability time can be extended by adding 10 to 15% (by volume) water.
  • Roller Painting: Use a medium pile fur paint roller for best appearance on smooth surfaces. Increase the length of the roller pile for rougher surfaces to ensure even and complete coverage. Keep all final roller strokes in the same direction, maintaining a wet edge throughout, and do not re-roll over areas where the Intelligent Gloss Water-Based Paint has already begun to dry as there is a serious risk of streaking.
  • For intricate objects or where high ambient temperatures/or high air flow conditions cannot be avoided, the pot life can be extended by adding 10 to 15% (by volume) water.
  • Light sanding between coats will remove any dust spots and other surface stains, creating an almost professional finish.
