INFORMATION

Intelligent Floor Paint is a high-performance, water-based acrylic floor paint that catalyzes with ambient air upon opening the package, is very resistant to cleaning and washing, wear, abrasion and chemical attack. A+ product and child-friendly. Recommended for concrete and wooden floors subject to light to medium traffic.

Preparation

  • General: Remove any surface imperfections and repair any defects to ensure a top quality finish.
  • New Wood: Unpreserved softwood timber should be treated with a suitable wood preservative.
    • For best results on new, uncoated softwood containing resinous knots, apply one coat of Aluminium Wood Primer to prevent staining and/or discolouration. This is followed by one coat of Little Greene Intelligent ASP Multi-Surface Primer followed by two (2) coats of Intelligent Floor Paint.
    • Resinous hardwoods require initial cleaning and treatment with Little Greene Aluminium Wood Primer (refer to relevant product data sheets for further details). This should be followed by one coat of Little Greene Intelligent ASP Multi-Surface Primer.
    • Ensure the moisture content of the timber is below 15% before commencing application. Wet wood should never be painted as this can cause blistering, peeling, cracking and premature coating failure.
    • Green Oak should not be painted unless it has been exposed to the outside and dried for at least 6 months.
  • Metals: New ferrous/non-ferrous metals should be cleaned by hand or power tool to remove any surface rust prior to application. Bare or corroded iron or steel will require treatment with 2 coats of Little Greene Intelligent ASP Primer.
  • Existing Paint Finish: Remove all loose and flaking paint. Degrease with a suitable detergent solution, then rinse with clean water. Sand thoroughly with medium grit sandpaper, 120-150 grit, to create a smooth, defect-free surface, focusing more on areas where paint has been removed. Make repairs properly and sand and apply a coat of Little Greene Intelligent Floor Paint as a primer, thinning with 5 to 25% (by volume) water, depending on the porosity of the substrate.
  • Concrete: Sweep or vacuum the surface to remove dust. If the concrete is chalky, the surface should be either sandblasted or treated with an acid-based solution to make it stable before painting. Minor surface stains, such as oil stains, should be removed by flame treatment. Dilute the first coat with approximately 15% (by volume) water to allow for penetration into the substrate and then apply two full coats of Little Greene Intelligent Floor Paint.
  • Natural Stone: Porous stone can be treated as directed for concrete. Intelligent Floor Paint is not recommended for painting directly onto non-porous granite masonry.

Application

  • Stir well before use.
  • Do not apply to surfaces when the ambient temperature is below 8°C.
  • For exterior application, do not apply if there is a risk of rain or frost during application or the drying period.
  • Brushing: Always use high quality synthetic bristle brushes that are the right size for the job. Apply Intelligent Floor Paint in even strokes and only extend the paint area so that a wet edge is easily maintained. For a higher quality finish, apply final strokes in the same direction and do not re-roll over areas where the paint has already started to dry.
  • Roller: Use a short pile fur paint roller for best results on smooth surfaces. Increase the pile size of the roller for rougher surfaces. Keep all final roller strokes in the same direction, maintaining a wet edge throughout, and do not go over areas where the paint has already started to dry because there is a serious chance it will leave marks.
