INFORMATION

Intelligent Exterior Eggshell open pore wood sealer enamel, offers maximum protection thanks to its superior penetration, resistance to cracking and peeling and can be applied to new timber without the need for priming as well as to previously painted surfaces. It is easy to clean with excellent water resistance and excellent adhesion to old solvent-based finishes. It creates a microporous film that minimizes blistering and is fully resistant to the growth of fungi and moss.

Preparation

  • General: Remove any surface imperfections and repair any defects to ensure a top quality finish.
  • New wood: Unpreserved softwood timber should be treated with a suitable wood preservative. All smooth planed timber should be thoroughly sanded and cleaned, ensuring that the timber is dry and free from contamination and dust.
    • Raw timber should be cleaned of dust, grease and any mould or moss residue or contamination.
  • Follow with two coats of Little Greene Intelligent Exterior Eggshell.
  • For best results on new, uncoated timber containing resinous knots, apply two coats of Aluminium Wood Primer to prevent staining and/or discolouration.
  • Metals: New ferrous/non-ferrous metals should be cleaned by hand or power tool to remove any surface rust prior to application. Bare or corroded iron or steel will require 2 coats of Little Greene Intelligent ASP Primer.

Note: Intelligent Exterior Eggshell Open Pore Wood Sealer is not suitable for use on wooden decks.

  • Existing paint finish: Remove all loose and flaking paint. Degrease with a suitable detergent solution, then rinse with clean water.
  • Sand thoroughly with medium grit sandpaper, e.g. 120-150 grit, to create a smooth, defect-free surface, focusing more on areas where paint has been removed. Make repairs, sand and prime with a first coat of Little Greene Intelligent Exterior Eggshell to the exposed and repaired surface. Follow with 2 coats of Little Greene Intelligent Exterior Eggshell.
  • Intelligent Exterior Eggshell Open Pore Wood Sealer should not be applied to waxed, painted or varnished wood without complete removal of the coating and appropriate cleaning and sanding to ensure good adhesion.

Application

  • Little Greene Intelligent Exterior Eggshell Open Pore Wood Filler is supplied ready to use with no need to thin.
  • Stir well before use.
  • Light sanding between coats will remove any dust spots and other surface marks, creating a near professional finish.
  • Application and use should always comply with the codes of practice outlined in BS 6150 and BS 5493.
  • Brushing: Always use high quality synthetic bristle brushes that are the right size for the job. Apply Little Greene Intelligent Exterior Eggshell Open Pore Wood Filler in even strokes and only extend the area to be painted so that a wet edge is easily maintained. For a higher quality finish, apply the final strokes in the same direction and do not re-roll over areas where the paint has already started to dry.
  • Roller Painting: Use a medium-pile fur paint roller for best results on smooth surfaces. Keep all final strokes of the roller in the same direction, maintaining a wet edge throughout, and do not re-roll over areas where the paint has already started to dry as this can seriously damage the paint.
