INFORMATION

Armourcoat K124 Keycoat is designed to bond with Armourcoat K40 primer and provide a strong mechanical base for subsequent coats of Armourcoat plasters. Armourcoat K124 Keycoat will also provide limited suction for subsequent coats of Armourcoat plasters.

Armourcoat K124 Keycoat has very good adhesion to substrates such as: Plasterboard already grouted and treated with a suitable primer, Cement render/cement putty (before applying Armourcoat Keycoats wet the surface) and over Armourcoat AntiCrack plaster.

Note: Highly absorbent surfaces such as GRG, freshly troweled gypsum plaster and plasterboard joints should be primed and allowed to dry before applying Armourcoat K124 Keycoat.

Preparation

Mixing Instructions

  • Always wear a dust mask when mixing Armourcoat K124 Keycoat.
  • Pour 10.0 – 10.5 litres of clean water into a mixing bucket.
  • Pour the contents of a 25kg bag of Armourcoat Keycoat and mix with a mechanical mixer for 3’ – 4’ minutes or until a consistent lump-free mixture is achieved.
  • Allow to stand for a further 5’ minutes and mix again for 20’’ – 30’’ seconds before use. When properly mixed the material should spread easily without sagging.
  • Where greater build thickness is required the water content can be reduced to approximately 9.5 litres per bag

Application

  • Apply Armourcoat K124 Keycoat to the wall in a continuous application. The plaster should be applied to the thickness of its grain size and while still wet, it should be lightly pressed with the stainless steel trowel almost flat and with constant pressure to give a consistent surface texture without streaks or lines. Allow to dry. The final surface should resemble coarse sandpaper.
  • When working in small enclosed spaces with poor air circulation or in cold room conditions, we would recommend applying a second coat of Armourcoat K124 Keycoat which when dry will improve the level of suction on the background. This second coat of Armourcoat K124 Keycoat is applied as soon as the first coat is dry or almost dry.
  • When using Armourcoat K124 Keycoat to fill small surface irregularities, mix the material to a firmer consistency to avoid shrinkage and small cracks in the plaster. Fill the hollow area with material to a maximum thickness of 2 – 3 mm and to achieve a flat surface. Leave to dry overnight and then apply another coat of Armourcoat Keycoat to the entire wall to create a stable surface ready for the final finish.
